Gayle Ann (LaMoria) Sheldon

Gayle was born in Danby, Vermont and raise in Rutland, Vermont,   She attened  grade school at St. Peters and high school  at Mount Saint Joseph, she played the French horn in the high school band.

She married David D. Sheldon soon after graduation and started a family.  Four children; Irene, David, Carol and Sheila. They have nine grandchildren and eight great gradnchildren.

My mother is the best and she has a heart of gold. She was always there when ever we needed her. For many years  She took care of my father's parents. his aunt and her mother.

Gayle enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. she also like to do crafts, like sewing and crocheting, she love to listen to music. Her favorite singer was Conway Twitty. My mother cooking was the best, specially her chicken & dumpling and her maple bake beans.  She never turned any one way for a meal. She would always made it work.

My mother won the battle with colon cancer and was cancer free for all two years.
June 23, 2007
she found out she had a form of brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiform IV. This cancer  was a primary type of cancer and did not have anything to do with or was caused from the colon cancer so the doctors say. It is pronounced geo-blast-o-ma. My mother had brain surgery on June 25, 2007 at Dartmouth, Hanover, NH.

Her recovery seemed to be preety quick. She had a few weeks of rehab in
Rutland;  then 32 weeks of both radiation and chemo. Half way through the treatment we found out that it was not slowing the growth of the small amount of tumor they were unsuccessful in removing. My mother decided to finish the intent treatment plan she started. She never really complained about her illness... she was sure she could fight it. She was in and out of the hospital and had to have 24 hours of care, which us kids and her grand kids provided, with the help of hospice. On October 10 my mother had us take her to the hospital as she had a strange feeling in her head. On Oct 15 was the last day my mother spoke. She said she was tired of fighting. Soon after that she was unable to talk and never really was able to respond after that day. On October 19, 2007 it was a beautiful fall day; about 11:39 am
when I was standing by her bedside  when my mother took her last breath. She passed very peacefully. I know at the point she was in the arms of our Lord.

My mother has donated her tumor to the Cancer research center in NH, in hopes that it will help them understand the type of cancer she had. She felt by doing that she could be heling other, even in her bad time she was always thinking of others.

The Rutland Herald and several other paper and the Vermont Public radio did a story on my mother; you can fing the links on the front page.

She was a strong loving women who touched so many peoples lives, she was not only my mother but my best friend. Carol
